93/100 JS

Tasting Notes

Deep, vibrant ruby to dark violet-purple.

On the Nose crushed dark berries, black cherries, and ripe plum aromas. Complex layers of sweet baking spices, dried herbs, forest floor and crushed gravel or dried clay. Subtle undertones of mint, eucalyptus, and floral lavender notes characteristic of Altamira’s high altitude.

On the Palate medium-to-full-bodied. Intense, juicy dark fruit, blackberry, dark cherry, and plum blended with cracked black pepper, dark chocolate, and savory herbs. Creamy mid-palate balanced by vibrant, natural acidity. Fine-grained, chalky, and linear, offering structure without harshness.

Serving: Serve slightly cool at 60°F–65°F (15°C–18°C). Decant for 30 to 45 minutes prior to drinking to open up its herbal and mineral undertones.

Food Pairing: Meats (Grilled New York strip steak, charred ribeye, roasted lamb chops, or braised beef short ribs). Poultry (Duck breast with a berry reduction or roasted turkey leg). Cheeses (Medium-aged cheeses like Manchego, Gouda, or mild Gruyère).

Vegetarian Options (Earthy dishes like wild mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, or lentil stews).
