94/100 VN

Tasting Notes

Medium garnet-red with tawny rim variation.

On the Nose layered bouquet opening with sour red cherry, dried cranberry, violet petals, orange peel, and dried sage. Secondary notes bring out worn leather, clove, iron filings, and subtle menthol-balsamic lift.

On the Palate medium-bodied yet intense. Shows exceptional finesse, characterized by bright, saline minerality and fine-grained, chiseled tannins. Long, taut, and structured, ending on notes of crushed rock, red tea, and wild spice.

Serving: Serve at 60°F–64°F (16°C–18°C). Avoid serving too warm, which can emphasize the alcohol and obscure the delicate, ethereal aromas. Decant for 1 to 2 hours prior to serving to open up its floral and mineral nuances.

Food Pairings:

The hallmark of Lessona Riserva, high natural acidity, firm but fine-grained tannins, and iron-driven minerality makes it exceptional with rich, savory, and earth-driven dishes. Red Meats & Game (Roasted duck breast, venison, or rack of lamb cooked with rosemary and juniper). Aged Cheeses (Castelmagno, Parmigiano-Reggiano, or aged Pecorino, which match the structure without overpowering the wine's fine detail).

Grown in ancient, iron-rich marine sands and aged for nearly four years before release, this benchmark 2016 Riserva offers an ethereal bouquet of dried cherry, violet, and wild herbs anchored by a signature fine-grained minerality and vibrant acidity.

It is a rare, age-worthy gem for serious Nebbiolo lovers and collectors looking beyond Piedmont's.
