Tasting Notes

Transparent, brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections.

On the nose deeply perfumed and complex. Notes of bright red cherries, forest fruits, rose petals, lavender, sweet spices, black tea, and crushed stones.

On the palate full-bodied yet weightless and graceful, a hallmark of La Morra. It features vibrant acidity and silken, fine-grained tannins. Very long and persistent on the finish.

Food Pairings: Truffle-based dishes, roasted game (venison, pheasant), braised beef, or aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano.

The 2020 Alberto Burzi Barolo Cru Capalot "Vecchie Viti" is a profound, single-vineyard red wine that beautifully balances power and ethereal grace. Crafted by the rising-star brother-and-sister duo Alberto and Caterina Burzi (small scale producer) in La Morra, it is made from the estate’s crown jewel: a south-facing parcel of 80-year-old Nebbiolo vines (some of the oldest in the region).

In the warm 2020 vintage, these ancient, deep-rooted vines naturally regulated heat to produce a wine of immense depth without losing its freshness. It is traditionally vinified with a lengthy submerged-cap maceration and aged in massive, untoasted Austrian oak casks to let the pure terroir shine. The result is a highly aromatic, transparent, and detailed Barolo, explosive with notes of bright red cherries, lavender, rose petals, and crushed stones. While it has the structure and silky, fine-grained tannins to age beautifully for two decades, its voluptuous profile makes it surprisingly approachable even in its youth.
