Arnaldo Caprai Montefalco Rosso DOC is a vibrant red from Umbria, led by Sangiovese with Sagrantino adding structure, and Merlot harmonizing the blend. It spends 12 months in French oak and comes across as smooth, elegant and well balanced. The aromas are floral, with violets and wildflowers, black cherry, plum and wild strawberry, and a touch of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. The palate is dry, fresh and medium-to-full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a succulent, lightly chewy finish.

Why buy it: This is a real Montefalco red from one of Umbriaโ€™s best-known estates. It has the depth and structure of a much pricier bottle but stays smooth and easy to drink. That makes it an easy choice for a weeknight dinner, a host gift, or a case to keep on hand, since shipping is free on 6+ bottles.

When to open it: Pour it with a hearty meal, such as pasta allโ€™Amatriciana, meat lasagna, grilled steak, or a board of salami and medium-aged cheeses. It is a good fit for casual dinners with friends and Sunday family meals. It can also be cellared for 6-8 years if you want to save a few bottles.
