93/100 JS

Tasting Notes

Deep, intense ruby red with distinct violet reflections at the rim.

On the nose intense aromas of Marasca cherry, wild berries, and violets, followed by secondary notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, and nutmeg.

On the palate full-bodied and velvety. The 2019 vintage is noted for its "black hole" density, a massive concentration of tannins and black fruit jam and cherry liqueur, that remains remarkably clean and elegant on the finish. The finish is exceptionally long and savory. It leaves a lingering impression of balsamic wood, toasted cocoa, and a mineral/earthy touch.

Food pairing: This wine demands rich, savory dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with:

  • Roast lamb or wild game (boar, venison).
  • Truffle-based pastas or risottos.
  • Aged cheeses like Pecorino.

Arnaldo Caprai Montefalco Rosso is a wine that embodies the rich history and unique terroir of the Montefalco region in Umbria. What sets Montefalco Rosso apart is its deep connection to the land—the vineyards are carefully cultivated on the slopes of the Montefalco hills, where the combination of limestone and clay soils, along with the region’s favorable climate, results in wines of great balance and character. The Riserva is a more concentrated, structured version of the classic Montefalco blend. It showcases the estate's signature ability to balance the aggressive tannins of Sagrantino with the elegance of Sangiovese.
