95/100 JS

Tasting Notes

Vibrant cherry red at the core, moving toward a classic garnet or brick-orange rim that indicates its long aging in old American oak. Clear and bright with medium concentration.

On the nose highly aromatic and "textbook Tondonia." It opens with dried red fruits (redcurrant, sour plum) and wild herbs. This is followed by savory notes tobacco, old leather, forest floor, dried mushrooms, and a touch of iodine. Subtle hints of vanilla and sweet spices linger in the background.

On the palate It is dry, silky, and medium-bodied, driven by a vibrant core of acidity. You'll find savory plum and citrus peel flavors supported by polished tannins. The finish is remarkably long, clean, and chalky.

Food pairing: It goes well with all meat dishes, roasted lamb, the high acidity cuts through the fat perfectly. Mushroom Risotto, matches the earthy, forest-floor notes of the wine.Aged chesees, Manchego is a classic pairing.

The Viña Tondonia Reserva 2013 from R. López de Heredia is an absolute icon of traditional Rioja, using 'organic' practice for grape growing. While many modern wineries aim for fruits -forward reds and power, Tondonia is all about elegance, acidity, complexity, making it a vintage defined by freshness and extreme longevity rather than raw power.
